When you think about the word “Ducati,” most likely a race-rep superbike comes to mind. Depending on your age, it may be a Panigale, a 916, a 1098, or even an earlier model from the company, like the 851 or a sports bike with a bevel drive. However, Ducati and sports are so inextricably intertwined that it’s difficult to see the company characterized by anything else.

ToggleThat being said, this is the same business that produces the Diavel and will shortly introduce a second cruiser model in addition to vehicles such as the Multistrada and Scrambler. Additionally, considering the popularity of Ducatis today, it’s possible that future generations won’t categorize the company within the “sports” umbrella with which it is currently linked.
Check out the top 10 Ducatis that are now selling in the UK to get an idea of how the company is evolving. The government’s registration records for the first half of 2015 are the source of all the data.
Ducati Scrambler Icon
Do you want to know how remarkable the sales of the Scrambler are? A few hundred sales might have sufficed a short while ago for the Ducati range’s best-selling model, but in the first half of the year, the “Icon” version of the Scrambler alone has outsold all other models combined, even though it wasn’t released until March. Thus, those sales actually only span three months. With the addition of 211 sales from the “Classic” and “Full Throttle” variants, the total number of Scramblers sold exceeds 500. Ducati should sell well over a thousand units (all models) by the end of the year at this rate. Still believe it to be a superbike company?
Ducati Panigale 899
There has always been a certain something unique about the smaller Ducati sports motorcycles. Since the 748’s inception, there has been a somewhat purist attraction to these machines’ more understated performance and lower cost. They operate more like scalpels than the sledgehammers of the larger-engined variants. Or perhaps those of us who are unable to pay for the 1299 are just using that as an excuse. The 899 is ending its life on a high note since the new 959 Panigale will take its place next year.
Ducati Multistrada 1200S
The Multistrada’s third place ranking on our list highlights the bike’s significance to Ducati; it’s an amazing return for a product that began as an outlier from the Pierre Terblanche period but evolved into something quite different. Similar to the 1299 Panigale, the ‘S’ variant is more popular than the standard model.
Ducati Monster 821
The Monster 821, which spans the whole Ducati line, is among the most affordable options to purchase a motorcycle, and its sales figures demonstrate this. In the first half of the year, 169 sales have already exceeded the bike’s record sales of 117 in 2014. I know that number doesn’t sound like much. Given that the Hyperstrada, which now shares the V-twin engine of the Monster 821, will shortly receive a new 937 cc engine, the standard Monster will undoubtedly see an update as well.
Ducati Panigale S 1299
Even though we’re struggling to recover from the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression, the Panigale ‘S’ model is outselling the base model by a wide margin. It appears that most buyers can pull together the extra cash to upgrade to a higher-spec bike once they’re able to spend $1,299 on a motorcycle. Given that the bike is gorgeous, it’s also a wise choice.
Ducati Scrambler Classic
Why is the Scrambler halfway up the table when it wasn’t even available at the beginning of the year? This is only one variant of the bike. After more investigation, it is revealed that the “Full Throttle” edition, which had 83 sales in the first half of the year, narrowly missed making the top 10. You’ll have to continue reading to find out what happens to the entry-level “Icon.”
Ducati Multistrada 1200
The Multistrada basic model is one of the most adaptable bikes you can get, and it merits its spot as the seventh best-selling Ducati since it has much of the attraction of the more costly variants.
Ducati Panigale 1299
This is the quintessential Ducati superbike! It’s just one slot ahead of the Diavel halfway through the year, making it a close call to determine which will have sold better by the time Auld Lang Syne is being sung inebriated outside the country’s bars! Even if there are more Panigale models, they will still surpass cruisers when taken together, which is quite a change for a company that is still thought of as a sports bike manufacturer.
Ducati Diavel
Yes, the Diavel from Ducati is the company’s ninth best-selling model. If the base model’s sales were combined with those of other models, such as the 11 registered Diavel Titanium, the ranking would be much higher. Imagine that only a few years ago, the thought of a Ducati cruiser would conjure up pictures of the repulsive state of Indiana.
Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring
Though 89 may not seem like a lot, keep in mind that this is only one version of the top-spec Multistrada 1200S, and the most costly one at that, since it includes luggage and pretty much every additional accessory that can be added to the bike. The bike was recently redesigned for 2015 to incorporate Ducati’s new DVT variable valve system.
